Season 2 closes with a collection of stories that prove some of life's strangest moments can't be explained, predicted, or even properly retold without sounding completely made up.
In this episode, Donny and Judy revisit a series of bizarre encounters and improbable situations that still leave them shaking their heads years later. A family parakeet develops a talent that no one saw coming. Judy's rental car experience takes an unexpected turn almost immediately. And the family's first attempt at dog ownership comes to an abrupt and unforgettable conclusion involving a turtle.
The problem?
Nobody owned a turtle.
As the Season 2 finale unfolds, the stories only get stranger. What begins as a collection of odd memories becomes a reminder that some of the most unbelievable moments are the ones that actually happened.
If you've ever found yourself stopping in the middle of a story and asking, "Are you kidding?" this episode is for you.

Stories from the middle of nowhere. Judy, when we started this thing a while back, never in a million years did I think we'd be able to bang out 24 episodes, two seasons worth of content. But here we are, season two, episode twelve. And again, when we kind of started this, we laid out a little bit. We planned ahead. Again, never did I think that we'd be able to have this much content. Well, now here we are wrapping up season two. And we're already kind of talking about season three.
SPEAKER_01I'm really looking forward to season three, especially some of the topics that we're going to discuss. I can't wait. It's going to be interesting. And I know you have some concerns before we even get to season three. Will we make it?
SPEAKER_00There's always the sensors that are out there. I'm shocked that most of our content has survived and made it through the sensors. They kind of watch what you're doing and make sure you're not doing some copyright infringement stuff, which we've been pretty good with that. But some of our other content has been a little bit risque. And we've talked about that. That's always kind of in the back of my mind is oh my gosh, we could get canceled.
SPEAKER_01And the mayhem that follows you so that we're able to live to tell the rest of the story in season three. Well, before we even get to season three, Donny, I gotta talk about stranger things that happened to us, whether we were little kids or as we've gotten older, just some bizarre things that kind of happened. And I don't know if you remember in like the 1970s, this is before a lot of people had pets. It was very rare for a lot of families to have dogs or cats or birds or whatever it was that they had. And I know we had an episode on that, but I want to talk for a few minutes about the pets that we had for a day. You know? You remember Benji? Barely. Well, Benji, we had for one day. Literally, one day. What could the problem have been with Benji? Do you have any recollection of that at all?
SPEAKER_00My first thought is that mom would be like, Oh, the dog took a poop in the house. Let's get rid of it.
SPEAKER_01That's what I would have thought too. But it wasn't that. It was all tied to a turtle. Did you ever know this? Did you ever hear this story about the turtle?
SPEAKER_00No, don't know the turtle story.
SPEAKER_01I thought for sure it had to do with pooping in the house. It was not that at all. It was that Benji kept getting on top of the turtle in the backyard. And I'm like, d did you know about a turtle? Have you ever even heard of a turtle?
SPEAKER_00Well, I knew we had the statue turtle, but I don't think you're talking about the statue turtle, the turtle that mom would sneak into the house. This wasn't Benji on top of that turtle?
SPEAKER_01Nope, it was a live turtle. And I'm like, huh.
SPEAKER_00Wonder what a little turtle or a big turtle?
SPEAKER_01No, a bigger turtle. And Benji kept getting on top of the turtle. One, what was he doing on top of the, you know, I'm like, is it like Cinemax after dark with the turtle and Benji in the backyard? What the hell's going on? Anyway, that's what the reason that Benji had to get given away. One day into it, and mom's coming at us saying, Daddy Jenny, we had to get rid of Benji because he was try-hopping the turtle. Well, well, and it's funny because on my recent trip home, I was talking to them about it and they're telling me about the turtle. And I'm like, I don't remember any of that. And it was under the premise of, gosh, we only kept that dog for a day. It's like we didn't even try. And I'm like, well, what did you expect? The dog to come in and be perfect, but where did the turtle come from? Anyway, that was weird. We also had another dog, Butzy, which is a really weird name for a dog. But that dog was given away after date for the very reason you thought Benji was given away. Pooping. He was, we got a pooper. Well, and then one year, and it was a really cool Easter, we got a really cool gift.
SPEAKER_00We got baby chicks. We got a dad came home with a box, and inside were seven or eight little baby chicks, and we took them down to the basement and they were running around and they were super cute.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think we had them in the shower.
SPEAKER_00Most people take baths with rubber ducks. We're taking showers with chicks.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, totally. Donnie, we only had them for a few hours.
SPEAKER_00They didn't even make it a half a day.
SPEAKER_01I don't even want to know what happened to those.
SPEAKER_00We had them for dinner like a couple months later. I don't know if you're not sure.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, those are just a couple of weird things. And it was again, people at that time, the pets weren't really like a member of the family. They were a pet. Now pets are like a sibling. You know what I mean? A son or a daughter.
SPEAKER_00We had pets. I don't ever ever remember taking Snoopy to the vet. It was he got his hair cut every once in a while. But nowadays, people take their dogs to the vet. They get shots, they get 20 different dog foods. I think we had one kind of we had Purina pet dog food or whatever it was, was kind of the only dog food out there. We've treated our dogs later in life a little bit different, where they got like brown schweiger and real meat. But the early dogs that we had, you're right, the pet thing was completely different back in the day, where now it's a multi-billion dollar industry. We didn't do any of that. I again, like I said, I don't ever remember Snoopy going to the vet other than when he got hit by a car that one time.
SPEAKER_01And I think the other dog food was elpo, because I thought you sampled it.
SPEAKER_00Well, well, you know what I sampled? I did not sample the Elpo weirdo. I did sample the chalk drops. Do you remember those little chocolate things for dogs? Which I don't think they were real chocolate because chocolate's poison for dogs. But it came like in this tin and it was called chalk drops. Well, I remember I was either smoking weed or got really hungry or we didn't have snacks in the house. And I thought chocolate chips. Let me try those chalk drops. And to be honest, they were kind of tasty.
SPEAKER_01Well, I thought it was odd when you were licking your nose later, but okay.
SPEAKER_00Well, thank God I was licking that and not another part of my anatomy.
SPEAKER_01Totally. I'm like, wow, now I know why they call you a gumby.
SPEAKER_00You saw me in the corner scratching myself. I had fleas.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of fleas, this is the most bizarre thing. And it was not from when we were little. This is a true story. I went before I ever moved to Florida, I went on a business trip with actually one of my friends to Florida. And we went to Tampa and we rented a car and we're driving down the highway. I'm looking at the dash and I'm like, what the hell is that coming out of the dash? Are those fleas? The car was infested with fleas coming out of the dashboard. It was like fear factor in the rental car. So we bring the car back. Of course, I'm not going to be scratching myself all week on a business trip, but I bring the car back while you return the car. I'm like, the car has fleas. I've never heard of such a thing.
SPEAKER_00Jude, you had a rental car one time in Florida. First time I had actually moved there, the heat and turning your air conditioning on of the car, there was actually fog coming out of the vents in the car. And it was the most bizarre thing ever. And again, with the temperature outside being whatever it was, superhumid. And then you turn the air conditioning on, and the next thing you know, the vents are blowing fog out. And for a second, I thought it might rain in the car. You got hot air meeting cold air, and the next thing you know, it starts drizzling in the rental car. That didn't really happen, but that thought crossed my mind. One other rental quick thing I gotta tell you is Diane and I were on our honeymoon down in Key West and we rented scooters. That's how everybody drives around on the island down in Key West. There's thousands of scooters driving around Duvall Street. Everybody's drinking, and I think drinking and driving your scooter was maybe an okay thing to do back in the day. There were thousands of people riding around on their scooters and honking their horns, and it was just a fun time. And we did that for a week, never drove the car, drove everywhere on the scooters. Well, then it was time to turn the scooters in, and we go back to the scooter rental place, and the guy's trying to rip us off. And he's like, There's damage on Diana's scooter. And he goes, Yeah, there's a big dent on the gas tank. We're gonna have to charge you for that. I went off. I lost my mind. I'm like, hey, listen, somebody else did that. We, that damage was there. We had nothing to do with that. I remember every waking moment that Diana and I were driving around. Nothing happened, so quit trying to get us to pay for previous damage. And I went off on the guy so bad and so long that finally he just said, Okay, never mind. We're not gonna charge her for that. So anyway, we got charged whatever it was. We get out in the parking lot. Diana leans over and says, Hey. And I'm like, what? And she goes, I forgot to tell you about something. And I'm like, I'm like, what? She goes, Remember when we were driving around the other night and we were going from bar to bar? And I go, Yeah. And she goes, I ran into a pole. And I go, What? She goes, Yeah, I ran into a pole and dented the I go, Oh my God, why didn't you tell me that? I just went off on that guy and told him that we had nothing to do with that and quit trying to rip us off, take advantage of us. So it was Diana actually coming clean after the fact saying, Yeah, I had a little mishap when you weren't looking. So they did pay attention to the city.
SPEAKER_01Interesting. Because I was just gonna say dirty bastards. You know what I mean? Trying to rob you on your honeymoon. Donnie, I had uh this was kind of crazy too. And I know we talked about when I abandoned the rental car when I was like 16, which was weird. But you know what else was weird is I went on a trip with our dad to LA. We went, he was going to some work thing, some police thing out there, and I wanted to go along because I'm like, oh, that'd be cool to go to LA, whatever. Be fun. And I'm 14. I had my driver's license at age 14. I took that car, and the rental company knew that I could drive the car. So these laws were totally different then. Just kind of weird. I remember driving on I-5 as a 14-year-old trying to go find some shops to go shopping at during the day while dad's at class. And there was no app on your phone to tell you how to get somewhere.
SPEAKER_00You know what I mean? It was crazy. Let's go back to the day when we were back in school, minute high. A couple of things I want to bring up. One is do you remember getting perms, getting your hair permed? That was actually a thing. And everybody was doing it. Even the guy on TV, I don't remember the TV newscaster of mine who was ugly as hell, who actually ended up going to prison. We're gonna we'll save that for a story in season three. Yeah, the news anchor from mine it ends up going to the state pen. And he had this really straight hair, and then every once in a while he'd show up with an afro on TV. Well, we did that too back in the day, getting perms. And it was kind of like the fad for a while. But I remember mom and dad not wanting to, you know, and they were frugal. They were frugal about money, so they were not wanting to necessarily spend money on Donnie getting a perm. So my first perm was a home perm.
SPEAKER_01And you know how Ogle Be gone bad.
SPEAKER_00Oh it's horrible. Well, the first day, the first day you get the perm, it looks great. You're like, oh my God, this looks fantastic. And this is going to be a cool perm. Well, then the next morning you wake up and half of it was gone. So it's like, okay, well, now I'm going. And then all the kids in school are like, oh, Donnie got a perm. Cool, that looks great. Baby looks okay, or whatever the thought was at the time. Every single day for like three days, it just kind of went away. It went away. And then all of a sudden, by day four, the perm was gone. Where if you go to like a beauty salon to get a perm, at least you have it for a few weeks or a couple of months. But again, with the folks being frugal, I don't know if they actually you got the home perm or if you went to a salon.
SPEAKER_01And I do have one salon perm story, but I want to hear real quick, did you experience I had a perm that I had done in the shop, but I think I had a mullet with it. And I know I have a picture of it somewhere. I'm like, okay, mullet and a perm. But yep, because we have totally straight hair. And it was ogul V. And there was always a joke about ogul V gone bad, and it stunk like crazy. You could get high off of the width of the perm.
SPEAKER_00I went to the salon one time and did get a perm. And while I'm in the salon, my hair and rollers and one of my friends knew I was getting that done. He snuck into the salon and took a picture with my hair and curlers. And I remember just being massively freaked out that that was gonna make the rounds or that was gonna somehow be shown. To be honest with you, never saw the picture, never found out what happened to it. Hopefully it never even got developed.
SPEAKER_01Thank goodness there was no social media. You always wanted to go viral with a band hit. Yeah, the perms were a thing.
SPEAKER_00One other quick-minded high story, because back then it was all about getting attention. And I think the perm actually was part of that as well. You'd get the perm, you want to look good, you want to stand out, was a fad for a while. But for me, it was always trying to be the class clown, get everybody's attention and get everybody to laugh. So, Judy, what I would do when I would go to the bathroom and the whole class would be like taking a test or studying, or the teacher might be in the middle of a lecture. I'd go to the bathroom, and then when I'd come back from the bathroom, I had purposely two and a half feet of toilet paper hanging from my front zipper. I didn't like pretending like I didn't know it was there. So I would just nonchalantly walk back into class, and all of a sudden the whole class would just erupt and everybody would start laughing really loud because sometimes people have like toilet paper hanging from their shoe or whatever. I had it actually just like a flag hanging out on my zipper.
SPEAKER_01I think, wasn't there something too where you did something where you it wasn't a date or whatever, but you went somewhere with your fly open?
SPEAKER_00That's a fast forward. I'm actually at a wedding and I'm standing, it's like a hundred degrees out, and they have a giant industrial fan, like in a warehouse. It's like a four and a half foot fan, it's huge, and it's trying to cool off this venue. Well, I remember, and I'm like in a suit standing up next to the fan, just trying to cool off and hold my hands up and being real cool and the fans blowing my hair. The mother of the bride was standing next to me. She was doing the same thing. She was cooling off. We were all like sweating and it was super hot. Like I said, it was a hundred degrees now. She's standing there, and all of a sudden I see her glance over at me and she got this horrified look on her face, and she scurries away. And I'm like, wow, that was kind of weird. I wonder what that was about. And meanwhile, I looked down, unbeknownst to me, my fly was wide open. Little did I know that the fan and the wind took the fly and basically blew it even more wide open. So there's like this big opening in my pants down there. Unexpectedly, Big Jim and the twins are making an appearance at a wedding. Mom of the bride gets freaked out, runs off, never made eye contact with me again.
SPEAKER_01That's way better than the toilet paper.
SPEAKER_00Well, that one was unexpected. The toilet paper was planned.
SPEAKER_01I just want to say, real quick, it works with the timing, but if any of you have pictures that you want to send in of like your ogle vegan bed or home perm or whatever it was, please email those to us at hello at stories from the middle of nowhere or share them on our social media. Donnie, do you remember going out to eat? I don't think we ate out much. And my knot was small. So we didn't have a McDonald's for a really long time. We didn't have a Burger King. We have local stuff. It was a town of 35,000.
SPEAKER_00Do you remember what we had before McDonald's where we went? Henry's. Henry's up on North Hill. And they had the best shakes. They had great shakes.
SPEAKER_01They had a grasshopper shake. Because when you're a kid and you see something unusual, you're like grasshopper, and I think it was a mint shake. I don't remember. Like I said, I can probably count on my right hand with four fingers missing how many times we went out to eat.
SPEAKER_00It wasn't because we couldn't afford to go out to eat. It was more of, again, mom being frugal or mom and dad being frugal. And we went on a lot of vacations when we were younger. I mean, we did the European trips and trips to South Dakota and a couple of other vacations that we took. So I think the folks were more about saving their money and not spending it out eating. Like some people spend a lot of their money, a lot of their income, on entertainment and going out, and we never really did that. The times we went out to eat were actually special occasions.
SPEAKER_01I remember we had one Chinese restaurant in town and we never got to go there. Not that it was a big thing. I can't imagine that they wanted to go eat Chinese food. I don't think they eat Chinese food today. I remember when I graduated from college and I moved to Denver. And we went out, I had a job, I went out with some of my colleagues for dinner. We went to a Chinese restaurant. I had no clue what to order. They're like, Well, aren't you going to get anything? And I'm like, no. I said, I'm allergic to it. And they're like, Well, what are you allergic to? I said, all of it. Just because I had no clue and I had no exposure ever to really eating anything else. And also, little fun fact for you speaking of McDonald's, I have never in my life had a Big Mac.
SPEAKER_00That's my go-to at McDonald's is the Big Mac. I've switched up a little bit and I don't don't eat a lot of McDonald's anymore, but for years it was the Big Mac. You've never had one?
SPEAKER_01Never. And I think it's because that creepy sauce they have on there. But it's uh that's one of my favorite things on there.
SPEAKER_00The special sauce.
SPEAKER_01I'm out. I don't want it.
SPEAKER_00The opposite of that, Subway, which I've gone to for years and years and years, go to Subway and get the same thing every single time. A BMT for 30 years. BMT have never tried another sub. Have never tried the meatball sub. Have never tried the ham or cheese, you know, whatever the other options are. I just I'm a creature of habit. I get the BMT.
SPEAKER_01Didn't you get banned or something from Subway?
SPEAKER_00Or I actually banned Subway because well, I did kind of get banned from there as well. But I'm in Subway one night. This is could be again a fast forward. Subway I go to, they're open until eight o'clock. I go in there at seven o'clock at night and they got all their stuff put away. They got meat and cheese out, and that's it. And I'm thinking, I guess you're supposed to be open for another hour. And the guy goes, Yeah, I can just make you a meat and cheese sub only. And I'm like, that's weird. And I kind of gave the guy some lip about it. And I'm like, You guys are technically open for another hour. I'm giving this guy a lip about you know having put all the stuff away at Subway. And he finally makes me the sandwich, and I could tell he's got a massive attitude, and I've got an attitude. Then he gives me the sandwich and he says, Hey, listen, I'm not gonna charge you for this, but I don't ever want to see you in here again. And I thought, What the hell? You don't ever want to see me in here again because I'm not sure what's asking because I wanted the stuff on it, and I'm like, no, listen, I want to pay for it. You're gonna ring it up. So he rang it up, paid for it. Well, then I took the sub and then as I'm walking out the door, I turn around and I said, Hey buddy, and I bent over like I was taking a dump and I dropped the subway from behind me like it just came out of my ass and said, There's your sub, jackass, and I walked out. Haven't been back since. I pooped out the sub right in front of them. I did pay for it, but it was like F you, buddy.
SPEAKER_01What's funny is I can totally see you doing that because I remember you doing that with the cornhole bags, camping with those beanie bags.
SPEAKER_00Well, you could do multiple. You could be dropping pellets with the cornhole bags. So it wasn't just one bag dropping, it'd be like, here, here comes two, here comes three.
SPEAKER_01I think that was your make-a-wish weekend, but um that's so funny. Only you in Subway and then never going in there again. One other strange story when we were growing up, we had these two separate old ladies that lived across the street from us. One my mom and dad thought was a really nice old lady, and then the other one they thought was a mean old lady. The one that they thought was nice, they'd go bring her groceries, they'd bring her flowers, they would do all kinds of nice stuff. The other neighbor they thought actually like reported them for I think they wanted us to charge sales tax or something at our garage sales, something totally stupid. Dad would work four to midnight. My mom would get these crank calls. Late night, it would be, are you home alone? They knew. Mom's like, Who is this? You Nazi bitch, Ava Brown, Hitler's whore. All kinds of calls like that would be coming in some creepy, scary uh voice. Of course, dad being dad, let's tap at the phone and let's see where those calls are coming from. Lo and behold, the calls were coming from the nice old lady.
SPEAKER_00It's almost like the calls are coming from in the house. By the way, uh prank calls from the basement.
SPEAKER_01Well, kind of funny, just when you said that about the calls coming from inside the house. I had a job and one of the things I did was work on some risk things, and I had to always explain cybersecurity. And I'm like, well, think of it this way: one type of risk is hey, the jammers are outside your home. And then the other type is the call is coming from inside the house where the hackers already got in. And I remember them thinking, well, what an interesting analogy to use. The call's coming from inside the house.
SPEAKER_00Judy, I remember working at K I Z Z radio in Mina, and I would prank call while I'm on the air, the other radio station. So I'm I'm like, I'm like, you know, and I had a again a little bit of an attitude. So I'm on K I Z Z and I'm doing the the evening show, and there's a DJ on the air at K hit 97. I'd call their request line and the guy would answer, K hit 97, and all I would say is, I'm kicking your ass, and then I'd hang up the phone. I did that multiple times.
SPEAKER_01Didn't you also when you were working in Florida at a radio station, didn't you because people would call you all the time for tickets and whatever, didn't you tell them that there was like Duran Duran in the studio or something?
SPEAKER_00That actually was like an April Fool's prank that some radio stations did where, hey, we're doing an impromptu concert in the parking lot and it's Duran Duran, and all of a sudden people are showing up and it's just a regular Tuesday, and all of a sudden a small crowd is gathering. But Judy, real quick, one other K I Z Z story. I remember going out the night before, just getting rocked and hanging out. I think it was the vineyard we were going to and then an after party. And I had just moved back to Mina, so I was living with the folks and working at the radio station. So I would get home at four o'clock in the morning, and then I'd have to be on the air at six. I'd get home at 4 a.m. I'd set the alarm for 5 30. I'd get 90 minutes of sleep, super tired. I'd go to the radio station, and then I had to run Casey Case, which came on discs. And you'd run Casey Case him. They had like 12-minute segments, and then you'd have to put commercials in, flip the disc over, run another segment, put commercials in. So you had these 12, 13-minute breaks. So I ended up taking a stack of newspapers and piling them up and making like a little mini bed in the studio. And I would lay down for those 12 minutes and just kind of pass out. And then when it got to the end of the segment, hi, I'm KCK, you know, and I'd get back up and I'd put in the commercials and then I would lay back down. Well, one of the times I laid back down, I completely passed out. Sleeping in the studio on a Sunday morning. The Casey Caseum segment ended. Again, it's on vinyl, and all of a sudden it gets to the end and it's like the other noise, and I remember waking up and I'm like, what's that noise? And I hear t and I hear and I'm like, what is that? And I get up and every phone is ringing. All five phone lines are ringing because people are calling, wondering what's going on. I jumped up, I flipped the record over, I put Casey back on. Hi, I've Casey, you know, and the I never answered a single phone call. Nobody ever brought it up again. My boss didn't bring it up. I didn't get fired and kind of got away with sleeping in the studio hung over on a Sunday morning.
SPEAKER_01Total George Costanza move.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01It was.
SPEAKER_00The other thing is funny is that people thought Casey was there. So I'd be on the air running Casey Case some and the request line would ring and I'd answered Hi, K I Z. And then some kid would be on the phone saying, Can I talk to Casey? And I would mess with him. I'd say, Yeah, hang on. Oh, God. And then I'd come back, hi. Are you trying to make a long distance dedication? Hi, I'm Casey Case. And I would do the whole impersonation thing. And the little kid thought he was actually talking to Casey.
SPEAKER_01And then he didn't get his song played.
SPEAKER_00He had a dog that died and they wanted a song dedication. Didn't get it.
SPEAKER_01Didn't get it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. Judy, a couple of quick pet stories. I know we talked about it in the beginning of this episode. We're kind of all over the place, but we're wrapping up season two. I think we can kind of try to tie everything up into a nice little neat knot and all that kind of good stuff. But Judy, we had a pet bird. His name was Kirby. And you know how birds, and it was a parakeet, they would mimic sometimes what you would say or learn words or whatever. Well, we had this bird in the kitchen. Nobody was really hanging out in the kitchen talking a lot, I guess. So it was it picking up words. But what it did was it would mimic the sound of the microwave oven. So when you push the buttons of beep, beep, beep, beep and do all that kind of stuff. Okay, 38 seconds, let me reheat this. Or the bird would mimic all those sounds. I'd be out there and all of a sudden, like, wow, who's putting something in the microwave? And I'd go look in the kitchen and it was the bird going beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, boop, making the pooping noises. I said, Look at me, I'm a microwave. Judy, one other thing, real quick about our mom, and again, the whole pooping thing that we talked about that Butsi lasted one day because of pooping in the house. The other dog, Benji, lasted one day because he was dry humping a turtle. I remember our mom, too, again, a little bit on the weird side, would be taking the dog for a walk and would have a poop bag to pick up poop. However, when the dog would take a poop, she would bend over and pretend to pick up the poop. So if somebody was like looking out the window or watching, oh god, look, they're they're picking up their poop. And mom was only pretending to pick it up. She'd like reach over and like, you know, be right next to it. So then she'd be walking off with the poop bag and be like, oh, look. And then later those people would probably go outside of their house going, What the hell? There's poop in our yard.
SPEAKER_01And they didn't have to replenish their poop bags. Recycle. We'll have more in season three, too. About we talked about this. They're 91 and 87 years old, and they just got a puppy. By the way, I did order a whole box of poop bags, so I think that's progress over the last 75 years.
SPEAKER_00There's some interesting stories. I've been going over there, Judy, on a weekly basis, and the dog's name is Henry. Their old dog's name is Harley. Everything starts with an H. Every time I'm over there, they're calling the dog by the wrong name. And again, they're old. I get that. But dad and mom are both Harley, Harley. And I'm like, that dog's name's not Harley, it's Henry. But I've got, we'll save it again for season three, along with the newscaster story about why that guy's in the state pen.
SPEAKER_01And Donnie, too, I think there was one thing that was tied to eating out. It was a rare instance. And I remember getting in a fight with mom over something years later, and I went back to something that she made that wasn't very good. What do you remember about going out to eat?
SPEAKER_00Well, I remember we went to that pancake house that was over there by the 252 bypass. And again, that was a rare treat, but we'd go out to breakfast at that pancake house. It was rare that we got to order our own food order, because usually when we did that again, I think the folks sometimes thought that we couldn't order our own stuff and would order for us. And it's not like back in the day they had a kids' menu, but we were at that pancake house, and I remember they'd order sunny side up eggs and pancakes, and they'd bring that over, and I was just shocked. And mom and dad were like, What do you why? You know, you've had eggs before. And I go, Not like this. And my mom's like, What do you mean? I go, These are around, these are like intact. Mom would make sunny side up eggs and they would end up almost kind of scrambled because she couldn't not dissing a mom. She's a great German cook and made fantastic dinners, but I think sometimes struggled with just making a sunny side up egg. So I was at the pancake house just shocked that I got an egg that actually was round and intact. And then same thing with the pancake. It was like this round, perfect pancake, which again at our house, the pancakes we got sometimes were just a fluff of stuff of stuff.
SPEAKER_01It was because I remember like her pancake, by the way, looked like a scrambled egg. So I don't even know what that was going on. Donnie, as we look ahead to season three, one of the things too that we're gonna talk a lot about is well, obviously the puppy and how they're dealing with the puppy is gonna do that. But some of the uniqueness of our childhood where how our mom migrated over from Germany at the sign of the times, some of the interesting things that kind of were in play because our dad was a cop, just cut some of the it was a kind of defund the cop before the cop was a thing. You know what I mean? Back then.
SPEAKER_00Well, Judy, we did a whole episode about dad and dad-isms and some strange things that he said, strange things that came out of dad's mouth. We've got a whole episode we can do about mom and mom isms, and again, this whole German American and words would get mixed up, and then she I think she made up her own words.
SPEAKER_01And it was embarrassing when I would reuse them in school. So yeah, we we got a whole lot of stuff coming up in season three.
